Now I know y'all are probably wondering "what the heck is she doing with a sundial in the house!?" Well, I'll tell ya - it's colder than cold out there, even windier than that, and I wasn't about to get all bundled up, get the sundial set up just right, and then have the sun go back behind the clouds like it's been doing all day, while I sat there freezing my tush off waiting for it to come back out!
Soooo, still wanting to show another example of time and not having a better idea, I waited and took it inside instead, and stayed warm in the process. And look, it even has leapy-type frogs on it for Leap Year Day! LOL :D
After 40-some years, I suppose it was time to get a new ice bag. The old one (on the right with the neat rubber seal and metal-threaded top) has definitely served us well (especially these past couple of weeks.) Apparently, it has sprung a leak, making replacement necessary. I seriously doubt the new one, with its all-plastic fittings, will last anywhere near as long.
Since we're supposed to get more icy cold this week, Mother Nature may have different ideas, but clearly, the daffodils think it's time for Spring to make an appearance... now. I agree, so I'm rooting for the daffodils!
Not quite the self-portrait one usually has in mind, but since this is how I spent my Saturday morning and the boobie tech offered to take the pic, I figured, "eh, why not?" I graciously declined her generous offer to take one with the machine, uhmmm... in action! ;)
As the insurance company screws around at my expense and withholds approval for an MRI so my doctor knows what to treat, I've been popping one of these painkillers every 6 hours for a little relief from my really hurting leg. Not my best effort but, hey, it's only Day 53 - I've still got the rest of the year! ;)
Actually, it's an ice cube on a black plate! The plate really gives it the appearance of a stone of some sort, and I love how the center looks like a hunk of silver.
I'm still not navigating too well (my tale of woe is here and here,) so this is about as good as it gets today. Since we're getting a light snowfall at the moment, this candle draft diffuser is also about as close as I'll be getting to a butterfly any time soon!
So I'm walking to the door this afternoon and catch a glimpse of red in the small flower bed by the front step. I bent down to see what it was and found this tiny little bead lying there. Wondering where it came from, I picked it up, brought it inside and absent-mindedly dropped it in the glass coaster sitting on the table.
Then, the more I looked at it, the more I thought it might make an interesting photo... the tiny little bubble inside was intriguing.
Lew and I have been together, pre- and post-marriage for over 25 years. With the few exceptions of him being away on business or one of us being away for one reason or another, on every morning of every one of those years, there has been a pot and/or a full cup of coffee waiting for me when I got up.
It seems that every photographer has taken, in one form or another, the classic ring -> book center -> light = heart shadow photo. Enthralled with the technique, I had to try it my amateur self for this week's theme of love and hearts. My "love" ring, our wedding rings, and the dictionary definition of marriage lend themselves perfectly to this experiment. Being unable to choose which photo to use, I decided on both.
(in the time it took to focus & click the button!)
And that's been my doings with the elusive Mr. Sun this week. So, I give up, the sun wins, and I'm gonna take pictures of my cat... or anything else instead of chasing shadows that aren't there. *sigh*
With the sun being a totally uncooperative participant by not putting in an appearance at all for the past two days, it wasn't looking good for an outdoor shadow photo any time soon. Then, just to tease, it stuck it's head out for all of about a 1/2 hour this evening, so I got a quick shot of the only shadow remotely worth snapping... our lampost on our maple tree. Spectacularly exciting, eh?
While fooling around trying to get a cool shadow, I ended up getting some really cool reflections too. If you enlarge the photos and look closely, you can see reflections of the glass in the base of the glass.
I really like the flower petal shadow/reflection effect from the stones.
This week's theme is "shadows" and should be lots of fun. In between our intermittent and uncooperative splashes of sunlight, I was going to photograph one of our glass doo-dads,when Lew put these in front of me instead. The resulting translucent shadows were fascinating...
Apparently the familiar red fireplug is becoming a thing of the past, at least around here. Most of what you see now are either yellow/orange, yellow/green, or occasionally, yellow/red. Some even sport trendy new "flat tops" instead of the unique little "helmet heads" we're so used to.
Since the all-red models seem to be passe, I thought I'd record one for posterity. ;)
... as predicted, and left a layer of shimmering, frosty beauty on everything in sight.
Being the wuss I am,and sooo unwilling to face the wet and cold, I took today's photos (with that cool new telephoto lens!) from inside, where it's nice and warm.
I'm a nice lady with a nice hubby and 2 relatively nice cats. This is where I talk about bits and pieces of the world I live in - good, bad, and indifferent - sprinkled with love, whimsy, wisdom, and a bit of nonsense.
