Day #31 - Burning both ends

Don't know what it is about candles that makes everything seem so soft and warm and cozy, but we enjoy whatever it is, particularly in the cold months. And especially when they smell so good - the short, chunky one smells like fresh-roasted coffee... mmmm!

Erg! Just a dusting this afternoon to welcome us home, but still... doesn't this stuff know it's the end of January and time to get ready for Spring?

It was a beautiful day for traveling, cold but crisp and clear. I thought this cloud formation looked like God just took a swipe with His paintbrush.

Day #29 - The Lake

Lake Norman, NC

Created by Duke Power Company, this immense lake provides water for hydroelectric, steam, and nucelar power plants. Fed by the Catawba River, this "inland sea" has 520 miles of shoreline - more than the coastline of North and South Carolina combined! - and a surface area of 32,510 acres. It's over 100 feet deep at it's deepest point, with an average depth of about 33 feet. Approximately 3,200,000,000 gallons of water fill Lake Norman - it took 11 months to fill it! It's an awesome sight, and one I look forward to seeing every time we drive down to the Carolinas.

Day #25 - Wrapped pretty

We're off to SC in the morning to help celebrate my grandaughter's birthday, so it'll be a few days before I post again, but I'll be taking pictures every day! See ya next week... :)

Day #24 - Through the looking glass

I've always liked this unique stained glass window at my dentist's office. Hopefully today's repair takes and I won't have to see it again for another 6 months though.

One of the tips on Project 365 is that we should include a photo of ourselves at least once a month to see how we change over the year... does my reflection count? LOL!

Day #23 - Lil Bits o' snow

All that remains of our first measurable snowfall is some bone-chilling temperatures, little patches of the white stuff, and bits of icy grass. The sun is doing its job.

Day #22 - Let there be light

I'm sure most of my visitors are familiar with this little gem... it was pelvic exam/pap smear day at the doctor's... that's all. (can't get more "slice of life" than this!)

Day #21 - Tennis is on

Being a big tennis fan - spectator-type - the Australian Open has had my attention this week and will next week too. Also learned something new about the flash on a camera. It comes on automatically each time you turn the camera on (even if you've turned it off previously... erg!) *sigh* - learn something new every day.

Day #20 - My beastie girl

One of the beasties always makes a good subject when I'm lacking any kind of original thinking. Here's Zoey again, snoozing away in one of her weird positions up against the back of the chair.

Day #19 - New toy for me

My honey came home with a new toy for me tonight - my very own itty-bitty tripod! Well, it doesn't stay itty-bitty, it expands, but it sure will come in handy for those close-up shots. Gotta love him!

Day #18 - Simple dinner

Not a terribly exciting photo, tonight's dinner - cheeseburger and chips.

Day #17 - One step at a time

Treadmill control panel - my goal is to steadily increase my time, build up more endurance, and make it more of a pleasant routine, instead of the necessary grind it's become. I must master reading and walking at the same time!

Day #16 - Snip, snip

Tonight was haircut night - my camera-shy stylist let me take a picture of his stylist ornament instead of him.

Day #15 - Manic Monday

So, it was a busy, busy day - first thing this AM,
a visit to the doctor for a blood test

After fasting from last night, a stop for
something to eat was necessary - besides, I
needed something to go with my coffee

The fog was thick and wet at 8:00 am

Later on, a trip to the dentist to fix my implant -
return trip next week to finish the job

Flags still at half-staff all over town

Fog was lifting a few hours later, but
still pretty heavy for the day

Finally, an appointment for some help with our
family room - a total catch-all disaster!

Like I said, a busy day - enough activity for a week's worth of photos!

Day #14 - User-friendly mice

Love my optical mouse - reliable little gizmo and no ball to get all cruddy. Best invention since ... well, since they started inventing this stuff! And that would include the cordless mouse. Tried one of those once too, but got real tired of replacing batteries. Maybe it was a lemon, I dunno, but this one suits me just fine.

Day #13 - Morning Sips

Day #12 - Winter??

Poor confused crocus! They don't know it's only January and they could still be snoozing for another month or so before poking their heads out.

Day #11 - Dental mishap

Ack! Since my dentist was out of town, had to trek over to his standby for a look/see at a loose crown on an implant. Not sure of what my doctor used to attach the crown and not wanting to risk damaging the implant, we opted to wait until mine gets back on Monday - hopefully it will stay put until then!

Day #10 - Toasty warm

Nothing like a happy, cozy fire when the temps dip down. One of the few we've had so far this season.

Day #9 - Ewwww!

This charming gift is what greeted me first thing this AM. I don't know which miserable beast is the donor, but why they can't use the damn floor instead of the carpet makes me crazy! (to avoid total grossness, chunky parts were removed before photo was taken... ewwww!)

Day #8 - Making things easier

Oh joy! Finally got me a hand-held shower - and a shower seat. Being able to sit and spray will make performing my daily necessaries so much easier now. It had become a real struggle trying to breathe, wash and shower the conventional way - my lungs just weren't cooperating!

Day #7 - He's a keeper

My fella brought me flowers yesterday... just because. They're some sort of iris, I think, but they kinda remind me of orchids as they've been opening.

Day #6 - Getting nekid

What goes up must come down - Christmas is officially over when the tree gets undressed. Lew undoes his handiwork and readies everything for packing away until next season.

Day #5 - Rainy day

It's a warm, rainy Friday at our house and I'm still playing around with close-up shots.

There's got to be a better way - other than a tripod, which I don't have - to keep the darn camera steady! But I dont want to have to go to a whole lot of trouble to take a picture because then this project will become a pita instead of fun.

I'll have to think on it.

Day #4 - Bare branches

The trees may be bare, but the grass is still green in this ridiculously mild winter we're having. An occasional bone-chiller has made an appearance, but for the most part average daytime temps are still in the 60's, with night temps in the upper 30's. All of which, of course, is fine by me!
