A rainy day kept us inside with Yahtzee, and after baths, a repeat viewing of "Beetlejuice" is on the agenda.
As we work our way through the games, tonight was Monopoly's turn. For a change, I won! :)
Exhibiting a bit of brotherly teamwork, the boys working on one corner of a 1000 piece mystery puzzle. A gift from my sister when she came down earlier this year (thanks again, Lonnie!) it included a short story, along with a mystery to solve from the clues in the finished puzzle. The solution to the crime was somewhat convoluted, and not one we would have reached on our own, but it was challenging and we all had fun with it. Lew has the finished product on his blog.
The grands have always enjoyed playing cards and board games and UNO is usually the first thing to get pulled out when they come to visit. Even though we have a newer one, this well-loved, dog-eared, old classic deck is the one we always turn to.
Our grandson Christopher, with a patch of curly growth under his chin, is ready for that rite of passage of all teenage boys... his first shave. So, at his request, his poppaw (aka Lew) bought a pack of disposables and will be helping him with the process. My little guy is growing up so fast - despite my protestations, the kid just will not stop getting older!! *sigh*
The Long John Silver's restaurant in Pulaski, VA (a little outside of Roanoke) has long been our meeting place to pick up the grandkids when they come for a visit without the parents. Located at about the half-way point between MD and SC, meeting there saves either of us from having to make the complete (long!) round trip.
Surprisingly, after about 15 years of doing this, the restaurant is still there, the furniture is still the same, and "our" booth is always empty and waiting. I keep thinking that one of these days we're all going to show up and the place will be closed and boarded up!
Don't know what it is about kitchen utensils and pots/pans that fascinates the little ones, but playing in and exploring mommaw's kitchen cabinets has always entertained them. Winston had a go at it this morning before they left.
After going 'round and 'round the tree playing chase with his dad, Winston gets caught in a squealing 'gotcha'!
I took a picture and shared memories of my granddaughter's dolly stroller about a year and a half ago for a Saturday Photo Hunt. Since it's one of the few pink things around the house, I did it again. :)
I never knew the history of this photo of my mother, obviously taken at a happy time, but it's always been one of my favorites. I wish I'd had her legs! ;)
Happy Mother's Day, mom, and a most Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there too. :)
It's been over 37 years since she passed away, but every once and awhile I take out her bottle of Coty L'Origan perfume that I saved from her dresser and reminisce. Surprisingly, even after all these years, it still smells like my mother and almost always evokes a few tears. It's not as strong as it used to be and I'm amazed it hasn't totally evaporated, but it's her.
I remember her wearing this pair of (screw-type) earrings, which usually rest inside the jewelry box with the rest of her jewelry. The doily was also hers.
All good things must come to an end... who made that decision anyway?? This week went by entirely too darn fast but we had a wonderful visit and loads of fun. I'm thinking we should do it again, sooner rather than later!
I neglected to, but Lew took a nice photo of the whole gang.
Players, two decks of cards, a pad & pencil - that's all we needed to enjoy umpteen games of the card game, Golf (different from the solitaire game of the same name.)
He's all grown up now (with less hair than he had then, I might add!) but I remember feeling him moving around when he was still in my mommy's tummy. What a guy! ;)
Here for the weekend, Richard and Lew have a father/son chat while Buster deigns to being held by a not-so-familiar pair of arms.
Needless to say, we all enjoyed their new Wii - what an addictive game!! (I think I may have to start saving my pennies... or visit my son more!)
Michael was overwhelmed with a complete set of drums (better them than me!!)...
while Christopher was stunned with his very own Play Station 3!
This goofy cat finds the strangest positions to lie in. If he's not going in both directions at once like this, he's full face down with his nose in the carpet.
One of the many pretties on Jim and Tammy's Christmas tree.
