Day 356 - Ready for reading...

When I'm ready to crawl in under the covers, my bedtime reading awaits. I'm very fond of the saying on the bookmark my grandson gave me several years ago. :)

Day 264 - More reading material

As you may have noticed, I'm an avid fan of mystery books. At the moment, I'm following about six different author's series. My latest batch will catch me up on Davidson's culinary series and almost catch me up with Coben's sports-themed series. The others I've been following from the beginning and gobble up each new paperback as it gets published.

Day 263 - Size matters...

There's a dictionary, and then there's a dictionary! I keep the little pocket one on my desk and use it regularly. The big one lives in the bookcase, and I almost need a crane to pick it up, but it's my go-to resource when I really want to find something (or need a really big word!) ;)

Day 255 - Peaceful bedtime

Curling up with a book on eyelet bedding that has been spritzed with smell-goods ensures a most peaceful through-the-night sleep.

Day 165 - As I see it

One of my greatest pleasures is reading in bed. My nightly routine is to crawl into bed, get all comfy cozy, and switch to my reading glasses. Then, curl up with my book and read until I get sleepy.

Day 108 - On my reading list

A house without books
is like a room without windows.
Horace Mann

Earlier this year, I joined What's In A Name, a reading challenge hosted by a sweet young lady, Annie. I figured I could handle this one since the requirements were really easy - read one book from six different categories and share a written review of each - with a whole year to complete the challenge. These are my choices, and so far so good - I've read three, and written reviews for two on my regular blog. (I'm soooo not good at this part - reminds me of book reports in school!)

Bonus pic:

When we were at the library yesterday, I finally pulled a turn-the-tables move, and got a picture of Lew behind the camera. :)

Day 107 - The Reading Place

We shouldn't teach great books;
we should teach a love of reading.

~ B. F. Skinner ~

I love this statue at the entrance to the C. Burr Artz Library in Frederick. It epitomizes the joy of reading and reminds me of my own times at the library when I was a child.

The lower section in the above photo is the Children's Area of the library.

Day 106 - Book news

This week's theme is literary...

The bright pink of this week's book review section in the Sunday Washington Post was an eye-catcher. It featured, what else... women authors.

Day 63 - Three + 3

Three books with "three" in the title by three different authors - can't get any three-er than that! ;)

Day # 249 - Books

Being at a loss for a photo today, this is what I came up with. As we continue to put the family room back together, I just stuck my Harry Potter books in the bookcase because they were readily available - the others are packed away and I didn't feel like sorting through them all yet to see what stays and what goes.

Day #234 - The End...

Well, I finished it last night, and I'm sorry it's over. It was a great read and a great series. And that's all I'll say about that for those who haven't read it yet. Rumor has it that author Rowling may be working on a crime novel. Oh joy! I love crime/detective books and if it's anywhere near the writing style of the Potter books, we're in for a real treat!

Day #229 - Holding up his end...

I usually keep my pile of waiting-to-be-read books on my dresser, held up on one end by the side of the mirror and on the other by whatever has been handy and heavy enough to keep them from falling over. Lately it's been a pouch of cosemetic goodies Susan gave me for Mother's Day. After much looking, I finally found me a pair of bookends that I liked at Target. They came today and I put them right into service. They're going to work great... and they look better too!

Day #192 - A boy and a book...

I got this book for the boys in hopes of sparking their interest in the magic and mystery of being a boy. It's an old-fashioned collection of useful and interesting facts and bits of info that encourages exercising the imagination rather than losing it to the electronic age we live in.

Day #105 - Reading material...

Whee! Got my Amazon order yesterday! This must be the week for books - I've noticed book photos on a few other blogs in the past couple of days.

Anyway, besides my regular favorite mystery series writers - Patterson and Kellerman - I've recently added Davidson (Goldy Bear culinary series) and Lehane (the Mystic River guy - I realllly like him!) to my list of likes. Throw in a couple of novels for a change of pace and these waiting unreads oughta keep me busy for a few.
