Day 213 - What is it? - #3

Another mystery for you - whatcha think?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Sorry I'm late posting - the boys are keeping me busy! Loved the guesses - gawdess, yours cracked me up - not quite that ambitious! lol - boubou, yes, that is a reflection of my hand.

When taking yesterday's picture, I ended up with some cool shots, soooo...

here's another hint...

and still one more.

Ta da! It's the van headlight... chrome-looking plastic, not alulminum.

In all fairness, I messed up and have been using macro instead of cropping, but the effect is almost the same. For #3, I did both.

Day 212 - What is it? - #2

The boys think I'll stump people with this one - did I? (This is fun!) :)

gawdess and boubou were definitely in the ball park with yesterday's mystery - a glass coaster on a placemat.

Day 211 - What is it? - #1

This week's theme is Mystery - sooooo, whadda ya think this is??

Day 210 - Birds of a feather...

... flock together. Apparently someone called the meeting to order and they all congregated on the fence at the appointed time. ;)

Day 209 - Out and about

Packing boys, bikes and beverages into the van, we went on an outing to Carroll Creek Park and the extraordinary Community Bridge. Then we moseyed on over to Baker Park where the boys could ride and check out the bird population.

Carroll Creek Park, looking toward the Community Bridge

Michael getting ready for a ride around the lake -
Christopher was already on his way.

Strolling amidst the people-friendly ducks and geese.

We spotted this newcomer, some type of sandpiper, we think,
who definitely stood out from the other birds.

It turned out to be a most pleasant day!

Day 208 - Chilling

Summer vacation means staying up late and catching up on good TV shows missed during the school year. Christopher chooses a comfy chair to do some of that catching up.

Friday, July 25, 2008

Day 207 - Whiz kid

Michael has always been very good at solving puzzles... trick, mechanical, assembly, etc... so the Rubik's cube was right up his alley. After figuring out the regular 3x3 version, the 4x4 was only slightly more challenging. The kid is is a master puzzler!

Day 206 - Strike one!

As into sports as they get, the boys enjoy a little brotherly competition playing baseball on the Wii.

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Day 205 - Roll the dice

A rainy day kept us inside with Yahtzee, and after baths, a repeat viewing of "Beetlejuice" is on the agenda.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Day 204 - Collect $200...

As we work our way through the games, tonight was Monopoly's turn. For a change, I won! :)

Monday, July 21, 2008

Day 203 - 'Tis a puzzlement

Exhibiting a bit of brotherly teamwork, the boys working on one corner of a 1000 piece mystery puzzle. A gift from my sister when she came down earlier this year (thanks again, Lonnie!) it included a short story, along with a mystery to solve from the clues in the finished puzzle. The solution to the crime was somewhat convoluted, and not one we would have reached on our own, but it was challenging and we all had fun with it. Lew has the finished product on his blog.

Day 202 - UNO

The grands have always enjoyed playing cards and board games and UNO is usually the first thing to get pulled out when they come to visit. Even though we have a newer one, this well-loved, dog-eared, old classic deck is the one we always turn to.

Day 201 - Rite of Passage

Our grandson Christopher, with a patch of curly growth under his chin, is ready for that rite of passage of all teenage boys... his first shave. So, at his request, his poppaw (aka Lew) bought a pack of disposables and will be helping him with the process. My little guy is growing up so fast - despite my protestations, the kid just will not stop getting older!! *sigh*

Day 200 - Family restaurant

The Long John Silver's restaurant in Pulaski, VA (a little outside of Roanoke) has long been our meeting place to pick up the grandkids when they come for a visit without the parents. Located at about the half-way point between MD and SC, meeting there saves either of us from having to make the complete (long!) round trip.

Surprisingly, after about 15 years of doing this, the restaurant is still there, the furniture is still the same, and "our" booth is always empty and waiting. I keep thinking that one of these days we're all going to show up and the place will be closed and boarded up!

Day 199 - Curves

Okay, today it really is lawn furniture! ;) The curvature of the stacked lawn chairs resulted in an interesting design.

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Day 198 - Lawn furniture??

More like furniture on the lawn... and not where one usually expects to find a kitchen chair. :)

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Day 197 - From one end to the other

Usually there's a cat laying on this piece of family room furniture...

BONUS PHOTO:

My tiny visitor has returned several times since my first picture, and today I managed a few more shots. I just got it in my viewfinder and kept clicking! Had to delete about half of them - all blurry - but these turned out well. It's really exciting to be able to take pictures of this fascinating, non-stop little creature. :)

Day 196 - Chair detail

I'm with Karin on this week's theme... the convenience of a houseful of furniture, plus avoiding the outdoor heat and taking photos in the comfort of AC... works for me!

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Day 195 - Stormy weather

On an otherwise pleasant and sunny day, the skies suddenly turned dark and ominous and that humongous black cloud mass proceeded to empty itself of its load of water. We lost power instantaneously but rain in July is always welcome - it's good for the grass. ;)

Saturday, July 12, 2008

Day 194 - uhmmm... blue

This is as good as it got today... blue (bloo), n., 1. the pure color of a clear sky; azure; the hue between green and violet in the spectrum... etc., etc., etc. ;)

Friday, July 11, 2008

Day 193 - Floating bow

When I wondered out loud what I could take a picture of, Lew said "how about blue bows" and handed me a box of them. So, here 'tis.

Day 192 - Baby bug

Out in the back yard to take a picture for another project, I came across this little critter crawling up the door frame as I was about to come in. It's a baby, only about 3/4" long, and only hung around long enough for me to get one macro close-up before it disappeared while I was trying to focus for a closer shot. I musta skeered it. :)

Day 191 - Jaybird

At a loss for a photo for today, this feathered pretty did me a favor when it landed on the bench, right in my line of sight. As luck would have it, it was the blue one instead of the red one. What could I do? Just had to take the picture, right? ;)

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

Day 190 - Kitchen anomaly

The blue dishcloth sticks out like a sore thumb in my red and white kitchen, but that way we always know where it's at! ;)

Monday, July 7, 2008

Day 189 - Garden glass

I'd rather be taking pictures of sweet grandbabies, but they went home yesterday. So, this is a totally lazy shot, but it's blue for this week's theme.

Day 188 - Someone's in the kitchen...

Don't know what it is about kitchen utensils and pots/pans that fascinates the little ones, but playing in and exploring mommaw's kitchen cabinets has always entertained them. Winston had a go at it this morning before they left.

Saturday, July 5, 2008

Day 187 - The chaser gets caught

After going 'round and 'round the tree playing chase with his dad, Winston gets caught in a squealing 'gotcha'!

Friday, July 4, 2008

Day 186 - Little patriot

My flag waving grandbaby...

... getting into the spirit of the 4th!

We have Baby Winston, Mom Susan, and Dad Lawrence here for the holiday weekend so we're having fun visiting (instead of blogging!) We introduced him to this riding toy - a favorite of the grands - I think he likes it! ;)

Wishing you a safe and ...

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

Day 185 - Teensy-weensy visitor

Look, look!! Look what I caught with my camera! Oh my gosh, I was soooo excited! I was sitting at my desk when I saw this little bits and quick got some shots through the patio door. This was the best one, glare and all.

Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Day 184 - Heaps of hay

The farmer has been busy this past week harvesting and baling (see Lew's Pics) the wheat field. Before baling, it gets piled into these neat rows so the baler can pick it up.

Day 183 - Patriotic theme

Doing our part to help celebrate the 4th, these red, white, and blue banners have recently begun to appear on the main street through our town.
