Icy & Fuzzy

One of the ice sculptures on exhibit in downtown Frederick's First Saturday Fire in Ice event.

Some of you may remember my fuzzy friend at the ice cream shop and his seasonal changes of attire, here and here. Apropos of the upcoming day, the big fella is sporting a snazzy Valentine's vest.

Day 157 - The pause that refreshes

With the temperature climbing upwards to almost 90 today, and the humidity climbing right up there with it, we stopped by the Frederick Ice Cream Co. to enjoy a refreshing ice cream cone. Lew had a German chocolate cake cone and mine was a p'nutty cone - butter pecan ice cream with various nuts, chunks of chocolate, and caramel mixed in. Yumm-ee!

You may remember the chicly attired bear that greets you at the entrance; keeping current with seasonal trends, the dapper dude is now ready to beat the heat in his fashionable shorts/swim trunks.

Looking up over the door, you'll also spot an oversized model ice cream cone.

Day 155 - Upward Look

"...The clustered spires of Frederick stand
Green-walled by the hills of Maryland..."

John Greenleaf Whittier
"Barbara Fritchie"

One of the noted Clustered Spires* of Frederick, the 150 year-old steeple of St. John's Catholic Church, with its gilded dome and cross, towers approximately five stories high. Its soaring height makes it the tallest building in historic downtown Frederick.

*My Twin Spires post shows other spires.

Day 104 - The Red Thing

Haven't a clue what it's supposed to symbolize, but this interesting metal sculpture sits outside the entrance of Flights of Fancy, a whimsical specialty gift shop on Shab Row in Fredericktowne.

Day 82 - Odd sightings

Unable to decide on which photo to use today, I decided on both...

Usually around this time of year, we see a lot of Easter bunnies. Frederick, however, celebrates their own way... betcha don't see too many Easter bears where you live!! ;) This dapper dude, in all his sartorial splendor, welcomes you at the Frederick Fudge and Ice Cream Co.

I'm betting not too many of us have green claw-footed bathtubs full of greenery sitting outside our front doors either! This one adorns the sidewalk in front of an antique/garden shop.

Day 70 - Bright Bike

When I saw that transportation was the theme for the week, I knew exactly what I was going to use for one day's photo... the cutest little pink motor scooter that I've seen parked in town. So, into the car we got for a quick jaunt into Frederick. Well... you know what's coming, right?... of course, the pink motor scooter was nowhere to be seen. Arrggh!

Okay, fine, sez I. On to Plan B - I know where a purple bus is parked. So off we go to photograph a purple bus. That done, we're roaming around looking for something a little different for Lew to photograph, when Hello! I spotted this little baby! So much for the bus - I'd rather ride a yellow Harley any ol' day! The bus or scooter will have to wait. ;)

Day 69 - Painted Lady

Historical Fredericktowne has its share of Victorian homes, including some Painted Ladies. Most, however, are not quite as well-maintained and, uhmmm... colorful... as this one. It really grabs your attention as you pass by - you just can't miss the vivid green/purple w/matching gingerbread trim and those three purple-shuttered windows!
